Adoration

What is Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration?Catholics believe that during the Mass which we attend each week, the priest (during the consecration) speaks these words as he holds the communion host, “… He took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take this all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you”. When the priest says “this my body”, it is at that instant when, through the miracle of transubstantiation, the bread and wine which we offer as the bloodless sacrifice to our Lord truly become the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus. It is His true Presence in the form of bread and wine. It is Christ. Why is Perpetual Adoration Valuable? The Holy Eucharistic is the mystery of our faith. Jesus said that faith can move mountains. One person coming before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament represents all of humanity. Every man, woman and child on the face of the earth receives some new, wonderful effect of God’s goodness, of God’s mercy, of God’s grace and of God’s love when you put your faith into action and come to visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Spend an hour with Him and change the world. What the Priest DoesPerpetual Eucharistic Adoration is when the priest takes a consecrated host, such as the one described above, and places it in a monstrance. The monstrance is then placed on the altar of the church or chapel for adoration. Members of the community/parish unite in making continuous hours of adoration before the Most Blessed Sacrament during the day and night, seven days a week. What do You actually do during Adoration? You may sign up to be an “adorer” which allows you to schedule yourself for one or more hours per week to pray before the very presence of Our Lord, exposed in the monstrance. It means that you can have some time alone with Jesus to recite your favorite prayers, read the bible, contemplate acts of faith, hope, charity, thanksgiving, reparation, pray a rosary or do whatever type of prayerful devotion that suits you before Our Lord. You can just sit and say nothing simply keeping Him company, just as you would with a dear friend. We Feel Our Chapel Exists Because of Our Blessed Mother’s IntercessionThe Marian Prayer group has met for sixteen years at St. Johns on Thursday evenings. They had prayed for many years that they could have a place for Perpetual Adoration. Then after Bishop Bernard Harrington called for a Perpetual Eucharist Adoration Chapel to be opened in each Deanery of the Diocese of Winona, Fr. Colletti gave permission to the Marian Prayer group to start planning for a place for the chapel. At that same time a person came to Fr. Colletti and said that in 1996 while visiting in Medjugorje he heard a voice as clear as could be that said to “build a place of Perpetual Adoration for my Son, Jesus.” He wrote the words in a little notebook and put the page in his billfold. He carried that piece of paper for many years, not knowing what to do with it. Then he heard Fr. Colletti talk about building an Adoration Chapel at St. Johns during a Mass. He contacted Fr. Colletti and offered to pay for everything. The city of Mankato answered the call for Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration at St. John’s on January 6, 2002; the chapel in it’s ninth year is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is open to all in our community and the surrounding towns who seek to have some time alone with Jesus The piece of paper with the message from Medjugorje is now framed and hanging outside the Adoration Chapel. We feel the chapel exists because of our Blessed Mother’s intercession. |
