April 28/29, 2012

  1. This Wednesday, May 2 at 8:30pm, St. John’s will celebrate the opening of our newly renovated church with “A Service of Light” prayer service followed by a wine and cheese reception. We will gather outside in front of the main entrance.
  2. Next Sunday we welcome the month of May with a May Crowning procession at our 10:00 mass. All children 4 years of age and older are welcome to participate in this special tradition to honor our Blessed Mary, mother of Jesus.
  3. The Habitat for Humanity fund raiser “Get on the Beam” is located at the back of Matthews Hall. Donate $1 or more in the attached bank and sign the beam. Your autograph will become a permanent reminder of your contribution in the framework of the next Habitat for Humanity house built.
  4. 4.  If you have a child age 5 – 12 years old; please stop by the table in back and fill in the grade and school your child attends. This will assist with our Sacramental prep programs and other grade specific programs offered at St. Johns.
  5. There will be no Circle of Grace sessions this weekend.  Check the bulletin for more information. 

6.  Finally, please note that Bishop Harrington will be here to celebrate our Mass of Confirmation with our young adults next Saturday, May 5th at our regular 5:15 mass.

  2. If you haven’t already done so, please remember to return your Operation Rice Bowl boxes to the parish office as soon as possible. Thank you.
  3. St. John’s is looking for individuals to be a part of two exciting new ministries: Audio & Visual Technology Ministry, and Concert Committee. For details on these ministries see the bulletin, or sign-up near the elevator to receive additional information.
  4.  St. John’s Youth will be in the elevator entrance on the main floor taking orders for TOMS shoes. For every pair of TOMS you purchase, TOMS gives a pair of shoes away to a child in need. Shoes will be available to pick up on Wednesday, May 9th at our Style Your Sole party.

  1. The parish office is working on updating the census – if you have a child age 5 – 12 years old; please stop by the table in back and fill in the grade and school your child attends. This will assist with our Sacramental prep programs and other grade specific programs offered at St. Johns.
  2. Monday Evening, April 2, we celebrate the Chrism mass with Bishop Quinn and all the priests of our diocese. We invite you to bring your families to this beautiful mass at 7:00 p.m. at Pius the 10th Church in Rochester.
  3. The Holy Week and Easter Sunday ministry schedules are posted on the table in the back of our worship space. If you are unsure where and when you serve, please check this schedule.
  4. We continue to meet for Sunday Vespers this weekend at 7:00 pm and Tuesday Stations of the Cross devotion also at 7:00 pm
  5. There are Holy Week and Triduum materials in the main and elevator entrances. Please feel free to take them to enrich your Holy Week experience.
  6. AND FINALLY, remember to return your Operation Rice Bowl boxes this next week into the box near the tables in back. Thank you.

March 24/25, 2012

  1. This afternoon, all are invited to participate in a communal reconciliation service here at St. John’s at 4:00p.m. Later in the evening, at 7:00 p.m, we will gather for Evening Prayer. Another opportunity for small group prayer and devotion will be Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. when we pray and follow the Stations of the Cross. All liturgies take place here in our worship space.
  2. “Pasta with the Padres” is THIS Sunday, (March 25) evening, from 4-7 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic church. All funds raised from this Benefit Spaghetti Supper will go to the ECHO FOOD SHELF. All are invited!

  4. Please check the Holy Week mass schedule for Liturgical Ministers on the table in the back. We are most in need for all ministers for the 11:30 Easter Sunday mass.
  5. Finally, please note the correction for our Easter Vigil service which will begin at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7th. Plan your family schedule so that you may come and experience the stories and symbols on this “birthday” of our Catholic faith.

  1. There are Simon Ministry magnets in baskets at each entryway. Please take one for more information on how to be more involved in this rewarding ministry.
  2. The Knights of Columbus meeting on March 20th will be held in the John Paul II room and not at the Parish Life Center. 
  3. We have a great need for Ushers at the 5:15 pm and 10:00 am Masses. All men and women ages 14 and up are invited to take part in this vital ministry of Hospitality. Please contact the parish office if you are interested. 
  4. A resource for prayers and activities for the 4th Week of Lent are available on the table in the back of our worship space.
  5. Join us for Evening Prayer, Sunday evenings, and Stations of the Cross devotions on Tuesday evenings during lent. Both are held at 7:00p.m. here in our worship space.

  1. The Knights of Columbus meeting on March 20th will be held in the John Paul II room and not at the Parish Life Center.
  2. We have a total of 10 openings for Ushers on 6 of our Usher Teams. All men and women ages 14 and up are invited to take part in this vital ministry of Hospitality. Please contact the parish office if you are interested.
  3. Liturgical Ministry schedules can be picked up from the table in the back of our worship space.
  4. And one last reminder that there will be NO St. Patrick’s Ham Dinner this year due to the church renovation and construction. Please be sure to join us next year.

March 3/4, 2012

  1. Evening Prayer begins this Sunday evening, March 4th at 7:00p.m. in our worship space and continues throughout Lent. All are invited to share in this special prayer, giving thanks to God at the end of our day and the beginning of our week to come. Stations of the Cross devotions continue on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in this space also.
  2. St. John’s Knights of Columbus Fish Fry is this Friday, March 9 from 4:30-7:00 pm. Due to the construction here at St. John’s, the Fish Fry will be held in Jesuit (JEH’-zue-it) Hall, the basement of Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church. Check the bulletin for further details.
  3. Attention 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, SIX:7D8 has been postponed until FRIDAY, March 23rd for a cheese pizza and movie party. There will not be SIX:7D8 this Wednesday night.
  4. Be sure to pick up your prayer resource for this 2nd week of Lent on the table in the back of our worship space. Operation Rice Bowl boxes are also available. Children and adults, alike, seem to love participating in this blessed activity throughout Lent. Thank you for your unending generosity.
