with St. John's Youth Ministry

Wanted: Many Hands

The saying is true that many hands make light work, and that’s the only way Youth Ministry works. We are blessed at St. John’s to have such great support for our Youth Ministry Program! Especially with those who volunteer their personal time for our young people. Although we have many dedicated volunteers, this ministry is in need of more support. If it were possible for the job to be done by one person, would Jesus have needed the disciples? Of course not, and for that same reason St. John’s Youth Ministry needs your help.

We are in search of willing adults to share their time and talents with the young people of our community! We need mentors to share their knowledge, gifts and abilities, catechists to encourage the growth of faith, and leaders to guide our young people by example.

How do I know if I am called?
As followers of Jesus Christ, all of us are ministers to each other. If young people energize you, if you enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience with youth, if you just like spending time with young people, or if you are encouraged by spiritual and developmental growth in youth, then you might be called to share your time and talents with the youth of our parish.

Don’t we already have a paid Youth Minister to do this?

Actually, no. We have a Coordinator of Youth Ministry who is in charge of planning and making sure our young people are getting what they need. One of the foundational principals of Catholic Youth Ministry says that,'The responsibility for [youth ministry] remains with the entire community, while recognizing that certain persons may be designated to coordinate and implement the community’s ministry to youth.’ (The Challenge of Catholic Youth Evangelization, NFCYM 1993).
So we are all called to be youth ministers!

How do I get involved?

Are you an adult 18 or older, graduated from high school, and interested in working with the young people of our parish? Consider being a part of one of the middle school or high school groups and contact Peter Bierer for more information! There will be training and guidance along the way! All volunteers must pass the diocesean Safe and Sacred Training as well as a police backgroud check.
